Im not sure who it was, but I was blog surfing and this guy from socal was doing these really cool "memory paintings"- since I see lots of gorgeous scenery on the way to work I figured I should give that memory painting a try.
This is this little hill just North of Rowland for all the Marin vets-

great color Berry! nice memory!
I should give this a try too...hmm been a while since i've been to Marin county =0)
Ian..
wow, that's so amazing you pulled such a beautiful image out of your head. I used to think it's no good to paint without seeing but I think otherwise now. We need both right? Robert Henri said paint from memory... yeah... we need to build our visual vocabulary from life and then exercise from our head.
I should do that too.
really inspiring..
Hey Dice- Man- always an honor to have your comments. Thanks.
Marin has been so gorgeous this year that it very easily burns such imagery into your head-
so I must admit that beautiful North California is more responsible for this than I-
nice one brojim
Great to hear from and see your work again. Love the paintings. You keep getting better and better. I remember going out there and painting with you.
Can I add your link to my blog???
hey! did this painting just get more beautiful or i am going crazy???
=0)
yah- I made some changes- I took another look and although I guess I can remember what the scene looked like-I still forgot nearly everything I have recently learnt about values. Doing those straight black and white paintings has been a huge help for me. anyhow- yup jc-you caught me- probably wont be the last time I do something like that-
hey mister, i really dig the changes, (wasnt meaning to catch you or anything! hehe). it has so much more depth and beauty to it.
Thanks James!
yah- softer edges and clearer values make for more depth and beauty- If I was a little more careful with where I have soft edges- instead of softness everywhere- I think I might be onto something-
wish I had a memory. Maybe if I practiced more. Nice painting!
